About Seoul

Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is one of the world's most densely-populated cities, with over ten million residents squeezed into a space smaller than London and New York. A fast-paced lifestyle and rapid modernization have helped turn the city into one of the great metropolises of Asia, and a major business hub for the whole region.

There is a lively nightlife, with hundreds of great bars and restaurants for locals and visitors alike. The traditional and cutting-edge sit side by side in this vibrant city. For the culturally-minded, there are numerous sites and attractions which reflect Seoul's 5,000-year history, including the spectacular "Five Grand Palaces" built by the Joseon Dynasty. Traditional street markets, often open nearly 24 hours a day, provide visitors with great shopping and a fascinating insight into the Seoul way of life.

How to Get There

There are several airlines offering direct flights to Seoul, including KLM, Lufthansa, Thai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and United Airlines. Incheon International Airport is located about an hour (52 km) west of downtown Seoul.

From the Airport to Hotel

The fastest way to from airport to hotel is to use a licensed taxi. We advise that you avoid using black taxis with yellow signs, as these are twice as expensive. This includes mini-van taxis. Take a non-black taxi and tell them to take you to the Walkerhill Hotel. This should cost around USD $80 (there is an USD $8 toll fee which they will add to your meter price, but it should not be more than USD $100). The ride can take over 1.5 hours if there is traffic.

If you would prefer to take the bus, the Airport limousine bus to Seoul costs approximately USD $15, and is run by Korean Air. If your arrival at the airport is after 11:00pm, this service will not be available. Instead, catch a bus to COEX mall (this will take 1 hour to get there). Then take a non-black taxi to Walkerhill Hotel, which should take about twenty mins and cost USD $12.

Accommodation

PokerStars qualifiers will be staying at the Sheraton Walkerhill. The city also has many other hotels, from deluxe to standard bed-and-breakfast style accommodation.
