MANILA
The Philippines comprises more than 7,000 beautiful and mountainous islands in South East Asia. Manila, the capital, lies on Luzon, the country's largest island.
Manila itself is a lesson in contrasts, thanks to a rich brew of influences from various foreign powers and its own diverse traditions. It's a city of ten million people which follows the curve of Manila Bay with much of its sprawl and energetic nightlife by the water.
There is adventure right on Manila's doorstep with activities include golfing, game-fishing, water-skiing, diving, mountain climbing, trekking and safari trips. Fiesta and village tours, cultural and historical tours, and visits to farms and ancestral houses are special ways of discovering the Philippines.
GETTING THERE
BY AIR: Manila is an international gateway city, served by more than 30 airlines (including national carrier Philippine Airlines) flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The airport is about 20 minutes from the city centre. Please note: there is a 750PHP (approx. $15 USD) exit tax payable at the airport on departure and ONLY PHP or approx. USD are accepted.
From the airport:
Taxis: taxis into Manila are inexpensive and operate by pre-paid vouchers which can be purchased at the Avis counter in the Arrivals Lobby.
ACCOMMODATION
We recommend the Hyatt Hotel in Manila but the capital also boasts a wide variety of other hotels from de luxe through standard to bed-and-breakfast style accommodation.
